The climate crisis & the threat of investment agreements
NO FRIEND TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Dubbed “Australia’s Trump”, Palmer funded his own right-
wing political party, which now has only one Senator, and
served briefly as a federal MP. He has been actively hostile to
Indigenous Australians. In 2023, he brought a court case that
challenged the ballot for the Indigenous Voice Referendum,
and reportedly spent $2 million in ads for the “No” campaign in
the two weeks before the referendum.
NO FRIEND TO TE TAIAO EITHER
Palmer doesn’t give a toss about environmental harm or the
climate crisis either. Newsroom reports that in 2012 “a refinery
owned by Palmer, Queensland Nickel”, illegally discharged
waste water into the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
